Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has directed all his political appointees to declare their assets with the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, to avoid any potential legal consequences.
The Governor instructed an Iftar (Ramadan Breaking of Fast) with Heads of Government Agencies and Special Advisers at Kano State Government House.
A statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, quoted Governor Yusuf as saying, “The management of Code of Conduct Bureau Kano office has informed me that 60 to 70 percent of the state appointees have not registered with them.
“They appealed to me to direct you to do so to avoid the consequences of non-declaration of assets, which is enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution,” the Governor stated.
He urged them to obtain, complete promptly, and submit the agency’s forms to ensure compliance with the law.
During the event, Governor Yusuf also expressed dissatisfaction with some Special Advisers who, despite their primary role of providing advice, have not submitted any counsel, either verbally or in writing.
He noted, “It is far better for an Adviser to send me dozens of memos than to remain silent for over a year without offering any advice on governance matters.”
The Governor charged them with changing this attitude by actively monitoring government affairs that affect their respective offices and submitting reports, whether positive or negative.
He commended the Heads of Government Agencies for their support and cooperation with the administration.
As a reward for their dedication and service, Governor Yusuf allocated 13 Hajj seats to them.
Responding on behalf of the Heads of Government Agencies, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Contributory Health Care Management Agency (KCHIMA), Dr. Rahila Mukhtar, expressed gratitude for the Governor’s support and urged him to correct them whenever necessary to ensure they align with the administration’s vision.
Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, reminded the appointees of the oath they took before the Governor—and by extension, before God Almighty—to execute their duties with justice.
He urged them to remain committed to Governor Yusuf’s mission and vision, which prioritize transformation and improving the standard of living for the citizens.
