Hakeem Odumosu, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), has denied reports claiming his appointment as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Responding to the circulating news on Tuesday, Odumosu dismissed the appointment as false and urged Nigerians to disregard it.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the retired AIG clarified that he had no knowledge of such an appointment. He said, “Good Morning, everyone. I have received numerous calls and messages regarding a supposed ‘EFCC Appointment.’ I want to take this opportunity to debunk this information and state categorically that it is entirely false. This news must have originated from individuals seeking to cause mischief and should be completely disregarded.”
It should be noted that the former chairman of the EFCC was suspended by President Bola Tinubu due to misconduct during his tenure. The suspension, announced in a statement signed by Willie Bassey, Director of Information at the SGF’s office, was a result of serious allegations of office abuse. The statement mentioned that the suspension was necessary to conduct a thorough investigation into the former chairman’s conduct.
Following the suspension of the former chairman, Mr. Abdulkarim Chukkol was appointed as the Acting Chairman of the Commission.
