ABUJA – THE Federal Government on Tuesday in Abuja, said it will hire experts to monitor procurement process in the Ministries, Department and Agencies, MDAs.

The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, disclosed this in his opening remarks at the Procurement Clinic on the Principles of Procurement Planning, Records Keeping and E-Advertisement for all MDAs.

Dr. Adedokun said the MDAs would no longer have the discretion to choose the Civil Society Organisations, CSOs that would monitor procurement process in order to checkmate collaboration.

He said capacity building will be organised for staff of the agency in all the geopolitical zones and that BPP will be involved in procurement process as it will not be taken to be transactional, rather a tool for Nigerians to gain value.

The BPP DG He said: “Today’s gathering is a testament to our shared commitment to improving public procurement practices in Nigeria and ensuring that they align with international best standards. Your presence here demonstrates your dedication to advancing transparency, professionalism and efficiency in the public sector.

“The Bureau of Public Procurement, as mandated under Section 5(k) of the Public Procurement Act (PPA) 2007, is tasked with organizing training and development programs for procurement professionals.

“This clinic has been specifically designed to empower procurement officers with the skills and knowledge necessary to carry out their duties effectively, specifically on the Principles of Procurement Planning, Records Keeping, Use of Nigeria Open Contracting Portal (NOCOPO) and E-Advertisement.

“It is not just a training session but a platform for learning and collaboration for reform.We have carefully selected the topics to be covered in this programme because of their importance in entrenching the fundamental principles of public procurement.

“Principles of Procurement Planning is aimed at ensuring that procurement activities are strategically aligned with your organizational goals and by extension Mr. President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“As we embark on this 2-day Procurement Clinic, I encourage you all to engage actively – ask questions, share experiences and explore innovative ideas that will enable you deliver procurement process efficiently. by the business communities and the entire citizens.
