Fatal Lagos Car Crash Claims Lives of 13 Passengers, Including Four-Month-Old Infant

Tragic Road Accident on Lagos-Badagry Expressway Claims 14 Lives, Including Infant.

 

In a devastating incident on Sunday morning, a road accident on the Lagos-Badagry expressway resulted in the loss of 14 lives, including a four-month-old baby. Williams Manga, the unit commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), reported that the collision occurred between a commercial bus (Mazda) with registration number MUS 411 XU, carrying 19 passengers, and a truck marked AKM 926YQ from Badagry. Nine other individuals sustained injuries in the accident.

According to Manga, the collision took place around 7:31 am during heavy rainfall. Promptly responding to the incident, FRSC personnel arrived at the scene at approximately 7:41 am. The injured victims were immediately transported to General Hospital Badagry for medical attention, while the deceased were taken to the hospital’s mortuary.

Out of the 14 casualties, eight were male passengers, five were female, and one was a four-month-old girl. Manga attributed the cause of the accident to excessive speeding by both vehicles under the adverse weather conditions. Notably, the truck driver remained unharmed.

Manga emphasized the importance of adhering to speed limits and conducting routine vehicle checks to promptly identify and address any faults. In light of the accident, Theresa Avoseh, an eyewitness, revealed that the victims had been returning home after celebrating with their relatives in Makoko, Lagos.

Sadly, Olatunde Bakare, the medical director of General Hospital Badagry, confirmed that 10 of the victims were brought in already deceased. Tragically, four more individuals succumbed to their injuries while receiving medical attention, bringing the total death toll to 14. Bakare assured that the hospital staff were doing their utmost to save the lives of the nine surviving passengers.
