ECOWAS Leaders Extend Warm Congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on His as Nigeria's President

 

During the opening ceremony of the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and in Guinea-Bissau, leaders from member countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) conveyed their heartfelt congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his recent election as the President of Nigeria.

President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea-Bissau, in his opening remarks, praised Nigeria for its commitment to upholding peace and bolstering democracy in the West African region. He emphasized that the coups in Mali, Guinea, and Burkina Faso, as well as the subsequent elongation of the transition period, represent setbacks to the principles of democratic rule of law embraced by ECOWAS member states through the supplementary protocol on democracy and good governance. President Embaló emphasized the significance of restoring democracy in these countries to ensure political stability, promote democratic values, and enhance the well-being of the people in the sub-region.

President Embaló underscored the importance for member countries to explore alternative means of mobilizing financial resources, together with strategic partners, to combat terrorism and accelerate economic growth across the region.

President of the ECOWAS Commission, Omar Alieu Touray, conveyed his felicitations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on behalf of the ECOWAS community and institutions. He acknowledged Nigeria's prominent position as the largest economy and country in Africa. President Touray expressed gratitude to President Umaro Embaló for his leadership as the chair of ECOWAS over the past year and highlighted the community's achievements, which would be discussed in detail during the ongoing session.

President Touray also extended congratulations to President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone on his successful re-election.

The 63rd session of the ECOWAS summit is attracting significant attention, with a remarkable presence of heads of state from member countries.
