The Department of State Services (DSS) has responded to allegations that Abdulaziz Yari, the senator representing Zamfara west, was detained for allegedly ignoring phone calls from President Bola Tinubu.
According to a recent report, Yari's arrest by the DSS was linked to his alleged refusal to respond to Tinubu's calls, which were purportedly aimed at pressuring him to withdraw his bid for the Senate presidency.
However, the DSS, through its spokesperson Peter Afunanya, issued a statement on Sunday dismissing the online report as “laughable and petty.” Afunanya clarified that Yari is aware of the reasons behind his invitation by the secret police, refuting the claim that it was solely due to ignoring the president's call.
Additionally, the DSS spokesperson denied another report suggesting that DSS operatives had confiscated incriminating files pertaining to Tinubu and his associates from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB). Both agencies themselves have already refuted this claim in separate press statements.
Afunanya emphasized that the allegations lack factual basis and credibility, characterizing them as mere fabrications. The DSS firmly denied all the accusations, labeling them as products of imagination and devoid of truth.
