Don Jazzy Opens Up on Why He Didn't Sign Wizkid and Davido to His Record Label
In a candid interview on the Leaderboard podcast hosted by Fisayo Fosudo, renowned music executive Don Jazzy shed light on his decision not to sign the Afrobeats sensations Wizkid and Davido to his former record label, Mo'Hits.
The CEO of Mavin Records revealed that he couldn't sign Wizkid due to the fact that Banky W, the CEO of EME Records, had already seized the opportunity to sign the Starboy. This led to Don Jazzy missing out on the chance to collaborate with Wizkid under his own label.
As for Davido, Don Baba J disclosed that he had the opportunity to sign him but ultimately decided against it. He believed that Davido had the potential to flourish in the industry without the immediate backing of a record label.
During the interview, Don Jazzy also expressed some regret for not signing talented artists like Simi and Teni. He mentioned being in talks with rapper Falz The Bahd Guy for a potential deal, but unfortunately, the arrangement didn't materialize.

In his words, “I like Simi, I didn't sign her. I wish I did. I like Teni, but I didn't sign her. I wish I did. I had the opportunity of signing Davido but I didn't because I kind of figured that he would be fine. Wizkid, obviously, I couldn't because Banky W got to him first. That would have been amazing. Falz, I love his work. We almost had a deal.”
