Delta State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, and 21 PDP lawmakers have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), turning the Assembly into an all-APC legislature.
The announcement came Tuesday as the House resumed after Easter. With seven APC members already in place, all 29 seats are now under the party.
Guwor said the defection followed consultations with constituents and leaders, citing Section 109 of the 1999 Constitution.
He blamed PDP’s national and zonal leadership crises for the move, saying the party was no longer stable.
The lawmakers were officially received into APC on April 28 at the Government House and Cenotaph in Asaba.
Guwor praised Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s support and said aligning with the Federal Government would speed up development in Delta.
He urged lawmakers to complete all pending bills as the session nears its end.
