Senator Dave Umahi, Minister of Works, has been crowned the 2024 Igbo Man of the Year by Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading Igbo socio-cultural organization.
Umahi, a former Ebonyi State governor, stood out among prominent figures like Peter Obi, Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu to claim the prestigious title.
Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, praised Umahi for his outstanding leadership in revamping federal roads in the Southeast through innovative cement technology, job creation, and improved security. His role in fostering peace between the Southeast region and the Federal Government was also lauded.
Ohanaeze’s assessment, based on the “Igbo Performance Perimeters and Indexes,” recognized Umahi for his unparalleled infrastructure achievements and advocacy for the region.
Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu was ranked second among National Assembly members, while Governors Peter Mba of Enugu and Francis Nwaifuru of Ebonyi were commended for their efforts in promoting local government autonomy and transparency.
Ohanaeze urged leaders to emulate Umahi’s dedication to progress and service.
