Chelsea end pursuit of Mike Maignan after improved bid rejected – Fabrizio Romano

Chelsea have withdrawn from negotiations to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan after their improved €21m bid was rejected, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.

The Premier League side had tabled an increased offer in hopes of securing Maignan before the FIFA Club World Cup, but AC Milan stood firm on their valuation. Romano reported on X:

“Mike Maignan deal now OFF between Chelsea and AC Milan. Chelsea not willing to meet Milan price, deal not proceeding in time for Club World Cup as #CFC won’t pay ‘CWC tax.’”

The Blues now plan to stick with their current goalkeeping options, Djordje Petrović, Robert Sánchez, Filip Jörgensen, and academy prospect Mike Penders.

Maignan, whose contract runs until June 2026, is understood to be unsettled at Milan after a contract renewal agreed in March was never signed.

Despite the player’s desire to move, Milan have remained unyielding in negotiations, turning down Chelsea’s initial €15m plus bonuses offer, and now their revised bid.

With no agreement in sight, Chelsea have officially ended their interest.
