Champions League final: Dembélé prioritises PSG glory over Ballon d’Or title

Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembélé insists winning the Champions League takes precedence over individual accolades, as the French champions prepare to face Inter Milan in Saturday’s final.

Dembélé, 28, has enjoyed a breakout season, netting 30 goals across all competitions.

This includes a prolific stretch of 24 goals in 18 games between December and March, to lead PSG’s charge to their first European final since 2020.

Despite emerging as a leading contender for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, the France international insists his focus is squarely on helping PSG secure their first-ever UEFA Champions League title.

“When you are a PSG player, what’s important is to take home the silverware such as the Champions League,” Dembélé said during a press briefing.

“The Ballon d’Or is in the back of my mind, but I want to focus on the team.”

PSG head coach Luis Enrique hailed Dembélé’s all-round contributions, calling him “one of the best players of the season, if not the best,” and praising his leadership and defensive work rate.

The French forward has filled the attacking void left by the departure of Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, and Neymar Junior.

Victory on Saturday would crown PSG as European champions for the first time and mark France’s first Champions League title since Marseille’s win in 1993.
