In a heartfelt revelation, Nollywood actress Chacha Eke has shared her personal battle with mental illness and the impact it has had on her life. She also disclosed the reasons behind a unique decision she and her family made—to avoid keeping valuable possessions at home.
Chacha, who faced a bipolar relapse in the past, has now become an ambassador for mental health awareness. She recounted a distressing incident that took place at the Ritz Hotel in Enugu, where she lost control and ended up damaging everything in sight. The aftermath left her family with only the clothes they were wearing.
Being completely honest, Chacha acknowledged that her disorder has brought significant challenges and moments of humiliation. However, these experiences have also fueled her determination to champion the cause of mental health.
She expressed her frustrations with her psychiatrist, as it was through their diagnosis that she first learned the name of her condition—a revelation that caused her great pain. Chacha vividly described another episode in their Asaba home where she wreaked havoc, leading her family to remove valuable items from their residence to prevent further damage.
Seeking help, Chacha eventually found herself at the FDAH where she received a diagnosis after spending several days in treatment. Reluctant to take medication, she decided to flush the prescribed drugs down the toilet upon her discharge. Unfortunately, she experienced another relapse, leading to her readmission to the hospital.
