A Nigerian caterer has been left heartbroken after an event she had prepared for was abruptly cancelled due to a kidnapping attempt involving her client.
The caterer, identified on social media as @cy_loves_food, shared her ordeal in an emotional video. She revealed that although she had planned and prepared food for the occasion, her client narrowly escaped abduction while travelling to the venue.
The incident forced the event to be called off, with guests fleeing for safety over fears of insecurity.
In the caption accompanying the video, the caterer wrote:
“My client had a near-death experience with kidnappers. They took her phones, her money — everything she had. We had prepared almost ₦3 million worth of food. Most of it got spoiled. We gave some out.
“We were supposed to cater for her friends coming from Lagos, but they didn’t reach her village anymore because of fear. By the time we traveled back from Mbano to Owerri, 90% of the guests had left already.”
The video showed a beautifully decorated outdoor event center, yet it remained deserted, with no guests or celebrant present when the catering team arrived with the food.
She explained that since much of the food could not be preserved, it was packaged and taken to the client’s hotel room, where it was later distributed to people in need.
The heartbreaking incident has since sparked an outpouring of sympathy online, with many lamenting the security challenges affecting personal and business plans across the country.
