Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid exit confirmed as Brazil move finalized

Carlo Ancelotti’s storied tenure at Real Madrid will officially end following the club’s final La Liga fixture of the 2024/25 season, with the Italian manager set to take over as head coach of Brazil.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has confirmed Ancelotti’s appointment, marking a historic move as he becomes the first foreigner to lead the Seleção.

Ancelotti will assume the role starting May 26, one day after Madrid’s final league game against Real Sociedad.

He replaces Dorival Junior, who was dismissed earlier in March after Brazil’s 4-1 defeat to Argentina in World Cup qualifying.

The 65-year-old’s exit from the Santiago Bernabeu closes a second successful chapter with Los Blancos, having added more silverware to his decorated resume.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid are accelerating plans to appoint a successor, with Xabi Alonso the frontrunner.

The former midfield maestro who has guided Bayer Leverkusen to the Bundesliga title, has already announced his departure from the German club at the end of the campaign.

Madrid hope to have Alonso in place ahead of their Club World Cup participation in June.

Ancelotti’s final matches as Real Madrid boss will be against Mallorca (May 14), Sevilla (May 18), and Real Sociedad (May 25), and he’ll be aiming to end his reign on a high before embarking on the challenge of restoring Brazil’s global dominance.
