Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State on Monday said only three local governments are under attack.
Alia said 17 local governments were initially under attack in the state, but his administration fought the attackers down to only three.
Speaking on Morning Brief, a programme on Channels Television, the governor insisted that his administration has done well in trying to protect the state.
According to Alia: “Seventeen local governments were under attack. We fought it down to nine local governments, then to six local governments, now to three local governments.
“That’s a huge milestone, and you can only appreciate it if you are within the state or if you are in the full understanding of this.
“There are frustrations, but is the milestone made huge enough and satisfactory? There is so much work for you to do to say we have tried and done so well.”
In the last few days, suspected herders have been attacking Yelewata in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
Last night, these herders launched another deadly attack on Tse Yange, a Tiv-dominated community in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The attackers reportedly killed the village head and abducted several residents during the raid.
The herders were said to have invaded the community on motorbikes before unleashing the terror.
