Barcelona teenager, Lamine Yamal, made a strong case for winning the 2025 Ballon d’Or on Thursday night.
Yamal came face-to-face with another top contender, Ousmane Dembele, as Spain took on France in the Nations League semi-final.
Nico Williams and Mikel Merino scored in the first half to give the world champions a two-goal lead.
After the break, Yamal converted from the penalty spot, after he was fouled by Adrien Rabiot.
His Barcelona team-mate Pedri made it 4-0 with a clinical finish, before Kylian Mbappe pulled one back from the penalty spot.
But Yamal struck again to make it 5-1, as it appeared Spain would coast to victory.
However, France reduced the deficit to 5-2 through Rayan Cherki on 79 minutes.
Spanish defender Dani Vivian scored an own goal, while a Randal Kolo Muani header in stoppage time made it 5-4 and a nervy finish.
Spain will now play Portugal in Sunday’s final in Munich.
If Yamal wins the Nations League in addition to the LaLiga and Copa del Rey trophies, he could end up winning the Ballon d’Or.
