The Obio-Akpor Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairman, Chijioke Ihunwo, has said the appointment of 100 Special Assistants was for empowerment purposes.
Ihunwo said the move is in line with the state governor’s decision to empower the citizens, bringing the much-desired prosperity and development to the state.
The Guardian gathered that the appointees, all with the title Special Assistants (SAs), render services to the council such as sanitation marshals, security watch, and other auxiliary services. It was also learnt that the special assistants are being paid N50,000 per month.
Chief Press Secretary to the Obio-Akpor Local Council Chairman, Mr. Ofonime Okon, in a statement made available to The Guardian on Thursday, confirmed that the names of some of the appointees are Clement Ifelen Nwaru, Augusta Dafugbo Jaja, Bariasa Juliet Doba, Chigozie Emmanuel Esinuelo, Stella Nkechi Worlu, and Ogbonna Ezinne Stella. Others are Charity O. Amadi, Ejekwu Theresa Nkiruka, Ijeoma Wosu, Orlu Grace Oluchi, Emilia Seibidor, Silverline Oluchi, Blessing Worlu, Blessing Ndidi Chinda, and Wosu Elizabeth Obinuchi.
The chairman, in the statement, while congratulating the appointees, charged them to work effectively and key into his developmental agenda, which is in line with the vision of Governor Fubara.
The appointment of a large number of Special Assistants is not just common in Obio-Akpor. The Ikwerre Local Government Chairman, Darlington Orji, immediately after he was sworn into office last month, approved the appointment of 600 persons comprising Special Assistants (SAs), Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), and Executive Assistants (EAs).
It was also allegedly gathered that the Khana Local Government Chairman, Marvin Yobana, also appointed 100 SAs.
