Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has stated that the position of its leader, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the party is not in dispute.
According to a press statement issued by its State Publicity Secretary, Lancelot Obiaku, the clarification became necessary following what he described as an infantile and misleading publication on social media platforms on Friday purporting that the National Working Committee (NWC) has suspended him as National Secretary of the party, alongside the Acting National Chairman, Amb. Iliya Damagum.
He stated that the story should be disregarded as it is entirely false, baseless, and laughable.
“The issue of Sen Anyanwu’s position as national scribe has long been rested by the Federal High Court in Abuja which declared on Tuesday, January 9, that he remains the valid national secretary of the party and issued an order restraining any group within its national leadership from appointing any person as acting National Secretary when Anyanwu’s four-year tenure is still running and subsisting until December 9, 2025.
“To clear every doubt, the court judgment is backed by the party’s constitution. It stipulates that any change regarding the office can only be made at the party’s national convention in line with the constitution of the party. This is straightforward,” he stated.
Obiaku pointed out that the purported story allegedly emanated from Hon. Debo Ologunagba and Kamaldeen Adeyemi Ajibade, National Publicity Secretary and National Legal Adviser, respectively, in reaction to their suspension on Thursday, October 10, 2024, by the NWC for gross insubordination.
He said the NWC of the party had since raised a disciplinary committee headed by Deputy National Chairman (South) Amb. Taofeek Arapaja to look into what he termed as grave misconduct by the two officers of the party who were accused of breaking their oath of office and flouted the party’s constitution.
“PDP, as a responsible party, expects its members’ actions to be guided by the constitution of the party.
“Where this is not the case, the leadership of the party is at liberty to invoke the relevant sections of the constitution to enforce discipline and order.
“The party’s platform is not a breeding ground for rascality. This is what happened in the case of Ologunagba and Ajibade,” he stated.
