Carlo Ancelotti has poured cold water on Real Madrid’s reported summer transfer plans, insisting the club is not actively working on signings at this stage of the season.
Despite growing speculation around a free transfer deal for Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and ongoing links to Dean Huijsen, William Saliba, and Martin Zubimendi, Ancelotti reiterated during his pre-Getafe press conference that Madrid’s recruitment policy remains focused on post-season decisions.
“We’ve never thought about signings during the season here. The club always thinks about signings at the end of the season,” the Italian tactician stated.
This stance comes amid rumours of succession planning at the Bernabéu, particularly surrounding Ancelotti’s long-term future.
Xabi Alonso tipped as his eventual replacement has reportedly been cleared to leave Bayer Leverkusen should Madrid come calling.
Yet, Ancelotti appeared unfazed, doubling down on his commitment and composure:
“I love this bench. I loved it the first time, I’m loving it the second time… if one day it ends, I’ll be grateful and take my hat off to this club. Nothing more.”
The 64-year-old acknowledged the challenges of the current campaign plagued by injuries, but welcomed the pressure, calling it “fuel” rather than a burden.
“It could have been done better… I take responsibility for some mistakes. But this is an evaluation for the end of the season.”
