Veteran Nigerian comedian Ali Baba has shed light on the staggering financial cost of securing political positions in Nigeria, revealing what he describes as the price tags attached to key offices.
In a recent appearance on the OUTSIDE THE BOX podcast, Ali Baba discussed the deep-rooted corruption in Nigeria’s political landscape. According to him, contesting for a senatorial seat could require as much as ₦1.2 billion, while the cost of running for governor in some states ranges from ₦20 to ₦25 billion.
Ali Baba, who has long-standing connections within political circles, argued that such astronomical figures have turned politics into a capital-intensive venture one that breeds corruption and disconnects leaders from the people they’re meant to serve.
He criticized Nigerian politicians for prioritizing projects that offer financial returns, especially those they can exploit during election periods, rather than addressing the real needs of citizens.
