Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the governor of Ondo, says the new high
court complex being built in Akure, the state capital, will be named after the
late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
Akeredolu, the late former governor of Ondo, died on
December 27, 2023, at the age of 67, after a protracted battle with prostate
cancer.
Speaking during the foundation-laying of the complex in
Akure on Friday, Aiyedatiwa, who was his deputy, said the facility will be
named Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu Judiciary Complex to honour the former
governor’s “enduring legacy”.
“This development is the actualisation of the dream and
vision of our late leader, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,” the governor said.
“It was his desire to provide a state-of-the-art high court
complex to enhance the workload and welfare of our judiciary.
“It is a historic milestone for Ondo state, and it is also
part of our unwavering commitment to the advancement of justice.
“Since the creation of Ondo State in 1976, no attempt has
been made to provide a modern edifice for the administration of justice.”
The governor highlighted the importance of embarking on the
project despite financial challenges.
He said the commitment is to provide a good working
environment with modern facilities that would enhance the welfare of judiciary
officers.
Aiyedatiwa said the complex “will include a ceremonial
court, modular courts, a registry, a library, exhibition buildings, a utility
building, and modern parking facilities.”
“It is designed to create a conducive environment for the
administration of justice and to speed up the dispensation of justice in Ondo
state”.
He further revealed that the 13-hectare project had been
awarded to Westfield Global Construction Company, with a completion timeline of
48 weeks.
