Out of 127 suspects arrested during a “Yahoo Party” in Akure, Ondo State, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said investigations have indicted 113 for engaging in internet fraud.
EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, disclosed this while addressing a group of protesters under the auspices of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
He said the commission has filed criminal charges against over 80 individuals indicted during the investigation.
He said: “As I am talking to you, about 127 persons were arrested. It was a Yahoo Party, forget about the lies they are telling you. They came from nine local governments to have the party in Akure. As I am talking to you, 113 were indicted, we have filed charges against about 80 of them; the remaining will surely have their days in court.”
Olukoyede further disclosed that the commission, in its Lagos operation, also indicted over 100 suspects, taking them into custody and filing charges against over 50 of them.
Recall that the commission had apprehended 127 suspects in an early morning raid on June 8, 2024, at simultaneous parties held at Signature and Abah Clubs in the state capital.

According to an EFCC statement on Saturday, credible intelligence indicated the party was initially scheduled for Wednesday, June 5, but was postponed to Saturday in an attempt to evade the commission’s security and intelligence networks.
“Operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the EFCC arrested One Hundred and Twenty-Seven (127) suspected internet fraudsters in Ondo State. The alleged internet fraudsters were arrested in an early morning sting operation at a ‘Yahoo Party’ held simultaneously at Signature and Abah Clubs on Saturday, June 8, 2024, in Akure,” the statement said.
The statement further revealed that the suspects have provided useful information to investigators, and various items were recovered from them, including ten exotic cars, phones, laptops, a motorcycle, wristwatches, and many incriminating documents.

The EFCC assured that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
