Google has announced its plans to launch advanced AI agents under its new Gemini 2.0 release.

This is part of Google’s new goal to revolutionize task automation and user interaction, marking the beginning of what the company calls the “agentic era.”

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, wrote: “Over the last year, we have been investing in developing more agentic models, meaning they can understand more about the world around you, think multiple steps ahead, and take action on your behalf, with your supervision.”

To showcase the practical applications of these new capabilities, Google is testing three AI agent prototypes, currently accessible only to trusted testers.

The first agent, Project Astra, is an AI assistant with enhanced dialogue capabilities, multilingual support, and integration with tools like Search, Lens, and Maps.

Project Mariner, another agent, focuses on browser-based tasks and uses an experimental Chrome extension to navigate web elements and complete complex operations.

It achieved an impressive 83.5% success rate on the WebVoyager benchmark, which evaluates performance on real-world web tasks.

Finally, Jules is a code-focused agent designed to integrate with GitHub workflows, assisting developers in planning and executing tasks efficiently, streamlining their coding processes.

These AI agents are powered by Gemini 2.0, which introduces advanced multimodality features. With capabilities like native image and audio output, Gemini 2.0 enables seamless integration of these agents into its framework.

The latest version, Gemini 2.0 Flash, is available starting today, marking the next step in the evolution of AI-driven solutions.

Additionally, Google has launched Deep Research, a feature for Gemini Advanced users that uses advanced reasoning and long-context capabilities to act as a research assistant, exploring complex topics and compiling detailed reports.

The rise of the AI agent era has been explosive in recent months.

Companies like Anthropic have released innovations such as Computer Use on their Claude models, enabling users to employ agents that control clicks and browse the web—similar to what Google is aiming to achieve with Project Mariner.

Meanwhile, the crypto market is also experiencing a shift driven by AI agents, with projects like AIXBT, Zerebro, Dolos the Bully, and Truth Terminal gaining thousands of followers on X.

These AI agents are attracting attention for their potential to transact, manage their own wallets, and create a new AI agent economy.

With this announcement, Google is positioning itself as a key player in the so-called “agentic era,” while the crypto market explores how this trend could reshape its ecosystem entirely.
