The Bauchi State Command of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has disclosed that it arrested 127 suspects and seized over 1,200 kilograms of illicit drugs between January and June 2025.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing in Bauchi on Thursday, the State Commander of the NDLEA, CN Ali Aminu, said the arrests comprised 118 male and 9 female suspects, while 28 convictions were secured, with 18 cases still pending in court.
He added that 32 drug users were counseled and rehabilitated during the period, mostly through brief interventions.
Commander Aminu revealed that the agency seized a total of 1,205.174 kilograms of various illicit substances, including 874.585kg of Cannabis Sativa, 330.588kg of psychotropic substances, and 1.06 grams of Methamphetamine, popularly known as “ice.”
He noted that this year’s commemoration theme, “The evidence is clear. Invest in prevention, break the cycle,” is timely and highly relevant to Nigeria’s growing drug challenge.
He stressed that prevention remains the most effective strategy in halting the scourge of drug abuse, especially among vulnerable groups like women and youths.
“Our efforts shine a light on prevention as the most essential strategy for halting the flow of drugs that fuels organized crime. This is done through the War Against Drug Abuse, WADA, campaign, alongside continuous education, sensitization, and awareness programs,” he stated.
This is as he issued a stern warning to drug users and traffickers to steer clear of Bauchi State or be prepared to face the full wrath of the law.
“The war against illicit drug use and trafficking is on. Anyone caught within Bauchi will not be spared,” Aminu declared.
