In an effort to demonstrate firm leadership and regional commitment, Yobe State governor and chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum, LCBGF, Mai Mala Buni, has rallied regional unity on security, climate resilience, and economic revitalisation in the Lake Chad Basin region.

Buni made the case when he led a high-level strategic engagement at the Lake Chad Basin Commission, LCBC Headquarters in N’Djamena, Republic of Chad.

The engagement served as a follow-up to the 5th Governors’ Forum held in Maiduguri, aimed at aligning implementation priorities under the 2025–2026 LCBGF Action Plan and deepening coordination between the forum and the Lake Chad Basin Commission.

“Among our major resolutions were the need to enhance the operational capacity of the Multi National Joint Task Force, deepen cross-border infrastructure development, mobilise finance through the Special Multi-Partner Delivery Fund and the Nexus Funding Facility, support community-based reintegration and reconciliation policies.

“The Forum also reaffirmed its commitment to tackling emerging threats such as youth radicalization, illicit arms trade, and ecological degradation.

“Notably, we welcomed the validation of the regional strategy for stabilisation recovery and resilience and the initiation of transformative projects such as the Support Project for the Restoration of the Ecological and Economic Functions of the Lake Chad Basin aimed at promoting climate resilience, environmental restoration, and sustainable livelihoods in the Lake Chad Basin region and Early Warning System initiative, both of which the Lake Chad Basin Commission will anchor”, he stated.

The governor of N’Djamena, Mrs Amina Kodjiana, and LCBC Executive Secretary, Amb. Mamman Nuhu, expressed strong support for the forum’s action plan, emphasising the need for sustained diplomatic collaboration and united development efforts.

They commended the leadership of Governor Buni and pledged to work closely with the forum to advance regional peace, resilience, and shared prosperity.
