The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria, Niger State branch, has expressed shock at the brutal killing of a nine months pregnant woman by her husband at Limawa area of Minna.
Recall DAILY POST reported that the deceased, Hauwa Isah, was allegedly beaten to death by her husband, Mohammed Sani, who is currently in police custody, on Tuesday.
The State FIDA chairperson, Bolanle Jibogun, in a statement made available to DAILY POST in Minna, condemned the murder of the pregnant woman in the strongest possible terms.
“FIDA is appalled by the recent tragic incident in Limawa, Minna, where a pregnant woman was beaten to death by her husband.”
“We condemn this brutal murder in the strongest possible terms and demand swift justice for the victim and her family,” she stated.
According to Jibogun, “This heinous act of violence is a stark reminder of the pervasive nature of domestic violence and the urgent need for collective action to protect the rights and lives of women and girls.”
She insisted that the perpetrator should be held accountable for his actions and that justice be served without delay for the victim and her family.
The statement also urged the State Government and relevant stakeholders to take concrete steps to address the scourge of domestic violence, including strengthening laws and policies to protect women and girls from violence, providing support services for survivors of domestic violence, as well as promoting awareness and education on the rights of women and girls.
The Niger State FIDA maintained, “We stand in solidarity with the family of the victim and we will continue to follow up on this case to ensure that justice is served.”
It further added, “We also call on all stakeholders to join hands with us to prevent such tragedies in the future.”
