Amorim backs Hojlund despite criticism after losing to Chelsea

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim insists he is “really happy” with Rasmus Hojlund despite the striker’s underwhelming display in their 1-0 defeat to Chelsea.

Hojlund laboured through the match, struggling to hold up play and visibly drawing the ire of teammates, most notably captain Bruno Fernandes.

Yet Amorim defended the 21-year-old post-match, highlighting his work rate and development.

“I’m happy,” Amorim said. “Of course the whole team has to improve, but the way he runs, he fights for every ball… he is improving.

“I’m really happy with him, he just needs to continue working hard and better things will come.”

Despite Amorim’s public backing, Hojlund’s statistics paint a different picture: 11 goals in 56 appearances and just two in his last 12 games.

These numbers have intensified speculation that United could recruit another striker this summer, with Ipswich’s Liam Delap among those reportedly on the club’s radar.
