Speaking on the Overlap fan debate, Rooney weighed in on United’s desperate need for a top striker, pinpointing the ideal signing to spearhead their attack.

Names like Liam Delap, Viktor Gyökeres, and Victor Osimhen have been floated as potential targets for Old Trafford this summer. Delap could be a bargain at £30m, while Gyökeres and Osimhen would likely command fees exceeding £60m—transfers that might only be feasible if United secure Champions League qualification by winning the Europa League.
However, Rooney’s sights are set on a bigger name: Harry Kane. The Bayern Munich star, who turns 32 this summer, shows no signs of slowing down, contributing an impressive 36 goals and 12 assists this season.
According to talkSPORT, Kane’s release clause stands at £67m but drops to £54m for English clubs in January, putting him in the same price range as Gyökeres and Osimhen.
For Rooney, Kane is the clear choice. “I love Harry. I think, as a goalscorer, he’s evolved his game over the last few years as well, I think he would be an excellent signing for United.
“He can join the club. He should.”
While a move for Kane might sound ambitious, it is clear Amorim needs to land a bonafide goalscorer to take United to the next level, after the failures of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
