Renowned Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, recently shared his thoughts on the lack of recognition he feels he has received throughout his long-standing music career.
In a candid conversation with popular media personality Kuye Adegoke, also known as Egungun of Lagos, Davido opened up during an interview that turned emotional and celebratory. Egungun surprised the Afrobeats superstar with a bouquet of flowers, acknowledging his 15-year journey and accomplishments in the music industry. Visibly moved by the gesture, Davido expressed gratitude, noting that such recognition is rare for him.
Despite his global success and influence, Davido revealed that he often feels underappreciated. “People don’t always give me the flowers I deserve,” he said, reflecting on over a decade in the spotlight.
The conversation also touched on public perception, with Egungun asking if Davido was aware of having haters. In response, Davido acknowledged them but added that the overwhelming love he receives from fans often makes him wonder where the critics actually are.
Egungun shared that securing the interview with Davido had been a four-year-long effort, expressing his joy at finally achieving it. Davido, in turn, praised Egungun’s growth in the entertainment industry and reminisced about earlier days when Egungun was known for dancing in his signature costume. “That’s massive, baby,” Davido said enthusiastically, showing his genuine admiration.
When asked about his favorite track from his album Timeless, Davido admitted that his favorite song tends to change daily depending on his mood.
