In a bid to ensure proper documentation of residents in Osun State, the House of Assembly is set to legislate on Islamic and traditional marriages in the state.
A statement made available to newsmen by the information officer, Israel Afolabi after the plenary on Tuesday, stated that the bill policy thrust of the bill as enumerated by the lawmaker representing Osogbo State Constituency, Rasheed Lawal, is to improve social lives of residents.
The bill tagged, Osun State Islamic and Traditional Marriage Bill 2024, would recommend applications for issuance of certificates to couples.
According to him, the Bill would ease processing of international documents for foreign trips of the couple and itwill ensure issuance of license for both Islamic and Traditional Marriages.
He also noted that the Bill if passed into Law would generate revenue for the State by the payment of fees for the issuance of the certificates to the couples.
In his brief remarks the Speaker of the Parliament, Adewale Egbedun noted that series of benefits would be derived from the Bill if passed into law.
He said, “series of benefits will be derived from passage of the Bill. It ensure certification and legitimise Islamic and Traditional marriage in the state.”
