Aide debunks claims of Abaribe disrupting senate plenary for Nnamdi Kanu

By Henry Umoru

ABUJA – The office of former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (APGA, Abia South), has dismissed as false and misleading a report alleging that he disrupted Senate plenary to demand the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement issued yesterday in Abuja, Abaribe’s media aide, Uche Awom, described the report as “a concoction that defies logic” and “deliberate misinformation” aimed at sabotaging ongoing efforts to explore a political resolution for Kanu’s release.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Abaribe was last seen on the Senate floor last Wednesday and traveled out of Abuja on Thursday for an oversight function in Ikwuano Umuahia, Abia State, organized by the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC),” the statement clarified.

Awom further pointed out the inconsistencies in the report, noting that:

The Senate does not sit on Fridays, as plenary sessions are held only from Tuesdays to Thursdays, making the claim of a disruption on a Friday baseless.

The National Assembly does not debate matters that are sub judice (under judicial consideration), and Nnamdi Kanu’s case is currently before the courts.

Senator Abaribe is fully aware of these rules and could not have taken such an action.

“The truth is that he did not lead any protest or obstruct legislative proceedings,” Awom stated, urging the public to disregard the fabricated report and refrain from sharing unverified information.
